Goose Island Beer Company – Goose IPA

GooseIslandIPApng
An India Pale Ale that recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result is a hop lover’s dream with a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, and long hop finish.

Hops: Cascade, Celeia, Centennial, Pilgrim, Styrian Golding

Harper Arms Rating (5=Tribute, 1=Carling): (4.3 / 5)

  1. Beer Graphic Equaliser
This is a nod to understatement and restraint. The aroma doesn’t leap out of the bottle and slap you about the face, the flavour is hoppy but not overdone as with the malty taste mooching about in the background.
Alot of hoppy craft beers, especially the unrefined brews, are everything turned up to 11 (and this is a technique not to be poo pooed by any means) but this beer seems to be the result of a clever use of a beer ‘graphic equaliser’ where everything is balanced, tweaked and fettled to perfection, well nearly.
Goose Island, proving less can mean more in beer brewing as well as feng shui.
