I was really looking forward to trying this new collection of beers from the very solid Wychwood brewery and, in the main, they provided a very reliable drinking experience. Apart from one. I really liked the label for Arrowaine and was excited to try it as I have a soft spot for stouts and porters – but this was like drinking a McD’s melted chocolate milkshake that had been left to ferment somehow. If this sounds like your thing then add 4 stars to the score, but sadly for me this is only the 2nd time I can ever remember throwing away an unfinished pint!

I think you have forgotten about the special rules that apply during Lent.

In Section 12 “Special rules for Lent”,sub-section 4, paragraph 2

“Beers from a single brewery that are sold as a collection to be drunk together, may be rated in a single evening. Only the overall rating for the collection may be used. Individual beer ratings are for guidance only”

Firecatcher is a fairly standard pint, followed by Dr. Thirsty's No. 4 which improved things slightly but not by much. Then Arrowaine....BLUCK, if I wanted chocolate milkshake I'll go to feckin' McDonalds. I've had Goliath before and always liked it but I'm guessing beers from the likes of Wild Weather and Siren have raised the bar. Hobgoblin is Wychwoods star player for a reason, it's much better than these. Time to invest in some R&D Wychwood... and if you need a Guinea Pig(s) to try out the results we're here to help.

A couple of OK blonde beers that are not as good as Hobgoblin Gold and a robust bitter that doesn't stack up against Hobgoblin. That's the good news! Arrowaine was a big disappointment but at least I did manage to drink it (unlike ) even if I did have to chug a Soundwave afterwards to get rid of the taste. Wychwood you can do better than this. BTW. I thought the Harper Arms by-laws required a full evenings drinking to award The Harper Arms Rating?
